Josh Hofer Bio

I am Josh Hofer.
I am twenty-four years old.
I am currently living in Raleigh, NC.

I have been doing band photography for about four years now. My passion for photography started after I left the band I used to drum for (After Letting Go). Once I left, I started stealing my fathers Kodak EasyShare digital camera for their shows. The more I took pictures, the more I loved it. Soon I actually became pretty good at what I was doing. With me working full-time in a retail store and not going to school, I was able to save my money to buy my own good digital camera.

After spending a lot of time doing research online, talking to my crazy-smart-camera-friend Kerry, and spending a lot of time in camera stores... I was able to pick out the perfect one for me. Once I had saved lots of money, pooled some Wolf Camera gift cards together, and got Mom and Dad to throw in some money, I made my first digital camera purchase; FujiFilm FinePix S7000.

I started to take my camera to every show I could. Just learning how to use it the right way as time went by. Shortly after, I met Mikey Lythcott; who at the time was running bandphotography.com. He took me under his "photography wing" and started to teach me more about my camera. It was really awesome, he helped me out a lot not only with the photography aspect but also helped me establish contacts with-in the music industry. He has been a great friend and a huge influence. As time went on and my photography skills improved, I bought extra accessories for the camera (fish eye lens and an external flash to name two things). Before I knew it, I had made tons of contacts with-in the local North Carolina scene. Everyone started to know me as the guy who always took those "awesome" pictures at shows. I couldn't be anymore flattered, it's marvelous.

Now-a-day's things are pretty gosh darn incredible. Photo passes are not as hard of a thing for me to come by anymore; most people say my photography speaks for itself. I shoot pretty much only in NC but I have shot a few shows in Norfolk, Virginia (The Norva) and I am definitely willing to travel to other states to shoot shows (or anything for that matter). That doesn't bother me at all, I love it!

If there is one thing I am very grateful for, it's the amount of amazing people I have met during this ongoing photography journey. I have made some really really remarkable friends all because of this photography gig. And now that I think about it; I really set out to take band photos to meet people, have fun a hobby, and to enjoy music . It has really become that and so much more.

Music + Girls + Photography + Computers = What I am all about !!!

Thanks for reading my babble :)

This whole BIO is pretty out-dated, but I don't want to change what I have written... The best way to keep up with what I am up too in nearly REAL TIME is via MySpace!
